Sunbird in St Malo are pleased to offer this high quality Marc Lombard designed lift keeler built by Wauquiez. A genuine dual role yacht, slippery fast on the race course, but comfortable and practical for cruising near or far. Extensively equipped for her participation in the 2018 Route du Rhum, the inventory is impressive and the boat is in lovely condition. As of May 2020 she is stripped for the winter, and her owner, who has had health issues and is about to be operated on again, is a serious and realistic seller.

Inventory and Remarks



The Opium 39, designed by Marc Lombard, is inspired by the Open 60' offshore racing boats: planing hull, powerful and efficient at all speeds and able to surf off the wind, elegant rounded coachroof, wide cockpit where all maneuvers are ergonomically arranged, robust rig, rigging and equipment designed for prolonged offshore use and selected from the best equipment manufacturers on the market.


The Opium 39 is now integrally produced in the workshops of Wauquiez in France. The hull is in vacuum infusion. It is composed of uni-directional and quadraxial E glass fabrics, a high spec gridded and impregnated balsa core, allowing lightness and resistance. The resin and gelcoat are vinylster to remove osmosis phenomena.


The deck is fabricated in the same process, but a closed-cell PVC foam replaces the balsa, limiting the weight in the upper parts of the boat. The frames and stringers are infused at the same time as the hull creates a one-piece structure and the bulkheads are laminated and/or glued to the hull and deck to ensure perfect rigidity of the whole.


 A super equipped and very well prepared boat, both for fast but comfortable cruising and for offshore racing.


A lift keel version that raises the draught from 1.40 m to 2.80 m.

Bateau à sensations, l’Opium 39, dessiné par Marc Lombard, est inspiré des 60’ Open de la course au large : carène planante, puissante et performante à toutes les allures et pouvant déjauger au portant, pont tout en rondeurs, large cockpit où toutes les manœuvres sont rassemblées, gréement et accastillage dimensionnés pour la résistance et le long cours et sélectionnés chez les meilleurs équipementiers du marché.


L’Opium 39 est aujourd’hui intégralement réalisé dans les ateliers de Wauquiez en France. La coque est façonnée par infusion sous vide. Elle est composée de tissus unidirectionnels et quadri-axiaux en verre E, d’une âme en balsa quadrillée « bois debout » imprégnée, ce qui permet légèreté et résistance. La résine et le gelcoat sont vinylester afin de supprimer les phénomènes d’osmose. 


Le pont est traité selon le même processus, mais une mousse PVC à cellules fermées remplace le balsa, limitant ainsi le poids dans les parties hautes du bateau. Le varanguage infusé en même temps que la coque crée une structure monobloc et les cloisons sont stratifiées et/ou collées à la coque et au pont afin de garantir une parfaite rigidité de l’ensemble. 


Un bateau super équipé et très bien préparé, tant pour la croisière rapide mais confortable que pour la course au large. 


Version en quille relevable faisant passer le tirant d’eau de 1.40 m à 2.80 m.


Moteur Yanmar 29 CV parfaitement entretenu par Chatelais Legal à St Malo.
