The 1920s Gentleman’s Motor Yacht MARALIA (ex Prunella, ex Saudades) was designed by Higley Halliday in 1927, for F H Muirhead and built by Taylor & Bates at Chertsey. She is carvel teak construction, substantially built but now requiring restoration with a 2019 survey available.

MECHANICAL
Engines removed.

Anchor Windlass, dodgers, fenders and mooring ropes.

SAILS
Ketch Rig with deck stepped wooden masts and booms. Rigging in fair condition. Two sails.

DOMESTIC
Interior mostly dismantled and non-original joinery and fittings removed. All original fittings and teak joinery carefully removed and stored such as panelled doors and other fittings.

MARALIA is one of only 2 known surviving motor yachts designed by Higley Halliday, the other being 'Seran' and was commissioned by Mr F. h Muirehead Esq. At 45' she is one of Halidays largest commissioned motor yachts. She was reviewed by Motor Boat magazine both before and after launch in which they noted that the chief feature of her design was the placement of the engine forward of the main accommodation. In 1933 she was re-engined with a Thornycroft 70hp diesel. She was modified likely by the war department when she was requisitioned between 1942-47 with the addition of an auxiliary wing engine and a wheelhouse. She was designed for extended cruising and her interior layout is exceptional, she has a full 6'3" head room throughout. She was equipped with a full galley, seperate bathroom and heads. Berths for 5 in three cabins. Mr Halliday cited her as being his favourite and most capable of the moderate size vessels he had designed.

REMARKS

"Maralia" was purchased by her present owner in 2019 and surveyed at the time (copy available). Her interior is stripped but much of her panelled furniture is in store, she required work to her transom and keel, her teak decks are generally good but have been covered with GRP. She would make an great restoration project or potential for a live aboard home.
